Stash turns 21 this month and to celebrate we're breaking
open a magnum of the planet's finest animation, VFX and
design work and serving it up with two tasty BONUS programs -
The Stash Shorts Mini-Fest 1 is a collection of head-turning
and very personal works from three solo film makers plus a
killer six-track music sampler from hyper-smooth indie outfit
Consumers Research and Development.
Stash 21 opens with an unexpected and emotional piece from
Lobo for the Buenos Aires Zoo before cranking up the volume
and the VFX in landmark pieces with Framestore CFC replicating
critters for Noam Murro and MPC replicating actors (or not)
for Nexus and Coke. Plus - Massmaket gets tough on pixies for
Dodge, Sway bridge the reality gap for Chevy and Mikros Image
puts Wanda under their thumb.
As the bubbly goes to our head, we swerve briefly off the
commercial path into the atmospheric world of 1930's Paris in
Kent Hugo's 3D short L'or Rouge . Broadcast design on this reel
is probably the most diverse selection we've ever featured
including stop-motion Star Trek 2.0 promos for G4 from Rogue
Creative, anime-inspired work from Buck, vamped-out heavy metal
demon-chicks from UVPH, hallucinogen-enhancing HD work from the
Mill and three more beautiful Billy Collins interstitials from
the Sundance Channel.
Okay, I'm only half way through the bottle. uh, disk, and
running out of space so a quick wrap up . Stash 21 also features
visually innovative music videos from DAf (Santiago), Las Palmas
(Helsinki), Adamame (NY) and Draw Pictures (London), brilliant
short films from Pistachios (Stockholm) and Jake Portman/Bill
Sneed (LA), the stunning game cinematic for Monster Farm 5 Circus
Caravan from Digital Media Lab (Japan) as well as 100 proof spots
from Tokyo Plastic, Ring of Fire and Method. Finally, just before
we pass out in a haze of visual overload, we close with Wilfrid
Brimo's hilarious and soulful new sequel to his groundbreaking
and multi-award winning 2005 Aides spot.
